A dedicated gamer, showcased in a video by YouTuber James Channel, has ingeniously constructed a custom Nintendo PlayStation system by combining the shell of a Super Nintendo with the hardware of a PlayStation 1. This remarkable DIY creation not only features the ability to play PlayStation 1 games but also accommodates select Nintendo titles—an impressive feat of engineering. James Channel, known for previous unconventional gaming hardware projects, including a playable version of Super Smash Bros. on a TI-83 Calculator, embarked on this venture inspired by the Nintendo PlayStation, a collaborative project between Nintendo and Sony that was ultimately abandoned.

Originating in 1988, the Nintendo PlayStation aimed to be a hybrid console supporting both SNES cartridges and Sony CDs. Despite prototypes being developed, the collaboration dissolved, leading Nintendo to partner with Philips, and the project was shelved. The PlayStation 1, born from the remnants of this venture, was released in 1994. Notably, existing Nintendo PlayStation prototypes are rare and expensive, with the last known working unit selling for $360,000. Inspired by this rarity, James set out to create his version using spare hardware at his disposal. Utilizing the interior of a PS1 and the shell of a Japanese Nintendo Super Famicom from a prior project, he merged the two through strategic alterations to create a functional system. The video details challenges faced, such as adapting the PS1 architecture to fit within the SNES shell, relocating components for proper functionality, and modifying power, eject, and reset buttons. Notably, the disk drive was creatively placed atop the console due to spatial constraints.
