The safety profile of imatinib has been well studied. Most patients treated with imatinib in clinical trials experienced some type of adverse event. The most common adverse drug reactions (ADRs) (>10%) associated with imatinib were: neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, headache, dyspepsia, edema, weight gain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle cramps, musculoskeletal pain, skin rash, fatigue , abdominal pain. Peripheral edema, predominant in the periorbital region, and edema of the lower extremities were often observed. Most of these AEs were mild or moderate. Discontinuation of therapy due to imatinib-related events was required in 2-5% of patients. Imatininb price in Malaysia , Thailand & Vietnam is not affordable.
