This episode featured an early scene with Mary Elizabeth Winstead's General Hera Syndulla facing a tribunal regarding her defiance of New Republic regulations to aid Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) in their quest to find an old friend and a fearsome old adversary. Aside from breaking cameo records, this episode distinctly indicated the show's position in the timeline. The revelation came through Paul Sun Hyung Lee's New Republic pilot, Carson Teva, whose character is becoming akin to Marvel's omnipresent Sorcerer Supreme Wong.

During the committee, Senator Xiono (Nelson Lee) challenged Hera's claim that remnants of the Imperial forces were regrouping even after the Galactic Empire's defeat in "Return of the Jedi." Carson responded to Xiono's objection, subtly but definitively anchoring Ahsoka's timeline within the Star Wars canon. He questioned, "What about the conflict on Mandalore?" referencing events familiar to recent followers of Star Wars shows.

This reference to the final battle on Mandalore in "The Mandalorian" Season 3, where Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon, the primary antagonist, attempted to reignite the Empire's influence before meeting a fiery end, clarified that "Ahsoka" is set shortly after the conclusion of "The Mandalorian" Season 3. Gideon's demise in 9 ABY (9 years after the Battle of Yavin) pinpoints the timeline of "Ahsoka" to around the same time, possibly one year later.

This revelation challenges the previous belief that "Ahsoka" and "The Mandalorian" Season 3 occur concurrently. It indicates that Star Wars is incrementally moving the post-Return of the Jedi timeline forward, holding promise for fans awaiting the live-action debut of characters from "The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels" who are canonically present but have yet to appear in this format.

This progression opens the door for significant changes in "The Mandalorian" and "Ahsoka" era. The nature of these alterations remains speculative, leaving fans eagerly awaiting what unfolds. One hopeful expectation is for fans to finally witness the long-awaited live-action appearance of characters like Captain Rex, a desire that has persisted for a considerable time. The Clone Wars flashback doesn't suffice in meeting this expectation - it's a beard or nothing.
